The Machinists Institute is addressing the need to change the stigma around mental health. Our trainings provide resources and raise awareness to identify the signs of suicide and mental health.

Sobering facts about suicide and mental health
Suicide is a pressing national public health concern. In 2018, there were 48,344 deaths from suicide. The trades are considered “high risk” industries due to:

Suicide can be preventable!
25% of adults experience a diagnosable mental illness in their lifetime.
Most prevalent in workplace are anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders. Fewer than 20% of people with mental illness will seek help despite an 80% success rate of overcoming mental illness with early treatment. Mental illness results in 200 million lost workdays per year.
